# Set your support contact

Your support contact is how the person at an endpoint reaches you. Outpost
shows it on the consent screen of the Windows agent installer
(`outpost-agent-setup.exe`) before anything is installed, and in the Outpost
tray app afterwards. Set it before you send installers to
anyone, so a person asked to run one can check with you that the request is
genuine.

## Why it matters

A remote access installer is a useful tool for a phone scammer. The defense is
that the person at the keyboard sees who prepared the installer and how to
reach them. Someone cold-called by a stranger sees either a name they have
never heard of, or their real provider's number to hang up and call.

The installer also shows the licensee from your signed Outpost license
alongside the contact name you set here.

If no contact is set, the installer tells the user that no contact
details are available and that they should not continue unless they can
already reach you.

## Before you begin

- You need `client:manage` to change the contact. Among the built-in roles,
  only the owner holds it.
- The contact is built into the Windows installer when you download it.
Download the installer again after you change the contact.

## Set the contact

1. Go to **Settings** > **Support contact**.
2. Fill in the fields you want end users to see. All of them are optional.

   | Field | Enter | Limit |
   | --- | --- | --- |
   | **Name** | What your customers or staff call you, such as your company or help desk name. Shown in place of your organization's name. | 200 characters |
   | **Phone** | A number to call. | 64 characters |
   | **Email** | A support email address. | 320 characters |
   | **Portal** | A support website. Must start with `http://` or `https://`. | 512 characters |
   | **Hours** | When you answer, such as `Mon to Fri, 7am to 7pm CT`. | 200 characters |
   | **Chat** | A chat channel, such as `Microsoft Teams`. | 200 characters |

3. Select **Save**.

The page shows **Saved**.

## Verify

The warning **Nothing is set. Installers you download will tell the user that
no contact details are available and that they should not continue unless they
can already reach you.** no longer appears on the page.

Download the Windows installer and run it on a test computer. The consent
screen shows your contact details. On an enrolled endpoint, the support card in the Outpost
tray app shows the same details. See [Outpost tray app](/tray/).

## If something goes wrong

| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Check the values: the portal must be an http or https URL, and the email address must be valid.** | The **Portal** does not start with `http://` or `https://`, or the **Email** has no `@`. | Correct the value and select **Save** again. |
| The Windows installer still shows the old contact | The installer was downloaded before the change. | Download the installer again. |
