# Agreements, time and billing

If you bill for the work you do on somebody else's estate, this is the part of
Outpost that tracks it: an agreement that says what a client pays for, time
recorded against it, and an invoice produced from both. Quotes, projects and
profitability reporting sit around the same records. This guide is for a managed
service provider running the commercial side.

<!-- TODO: write this page against the how-to template.

Sections:

- Before you begin: provider mode, the professional services permissions, and
  a client to bill.
- Agreements: what a client is covered for, and what falls outside it.
- Recording time, from the ticket and from the timer.
- What is billable, what is covered, and who decides.
- Producing an invoice, reviewing it, and sending it.
- Quotes and approvals, and turning an accepted quote into work.
- Projects: phases, tasks and milestones for work too big for a ticket.
- Reporting: agreement profitability, receivables ageing and client health.
- If something goes wrong: time on the wrong agreement, an invoice that does
not balance, and work nobody recorded.
