# View and pay invoices

The portal shows every invoice your IT provider has issued you, what each one
charges for, and what you have paid. You can pay online when your IT provider
offers it. This page covers reading your bills and paying them.

## Before you begin

- Seeing invoices needs the **View invoices and payments** permission, and
paying needs **Pay invoices**. The **Billing** and **Owner** roles have
  both. See [Manage your team](/portal-guide/manage-your-team/).
- Paying takes money from your card or bank account at once. Check the amount
on the review step before you select **Pay**.

## See what you owe

Select **Billing**. It shows:

- **Balance due**, with the next invoice due and a **Pay** button.
- **Next bill**, an estimate of your next invoice. See
  [Read your next bill](#read-your-next-bill).
- **Automatic payments**, on or off. See [Pay automatically](/portal-guide/autopay/).
- Links to **Saved payment methods**, **Open invoices**, **All invoices**,
  and **Payment history**.

**Invoices** lists every invoice you have been sent, with its status:
**Due**, **Partly paid**, **Overdue**, **Paid**, or **Canceled**. Search by
invoice number, or narrow by status and the dates it was issued.

## Read an invoice

Open an invoice to see:

- What is on it, line by line. A line that counts devices or people says how
many it counted and how, and **Show the N billed** lists them by name.
- **Subtotal**, **Total**, and **Balance**.
- **Payments** made against it, each with a **Receipt**.
- Any **Credit notes**, and **Notes from your provider**.

Select **Download PDF** for a copy of the invoice.

## Pay an invoice

1. Open the invoice and select **Pay**, which shows the amount due.
2. Under **How would you like to pay?**, choose a saved method, a new card, or
a new bank account. If your IT provider adds a fee for credit cards, the
page says so here, before you choose.
3. For a new card, choose **Billing state of the card**, or **Outside the US**.
Card fee rules depend on where the card is billed.
4. Select **Continue**, then enter the card or bank details. They go straight
to the payment processor and never reach the portal.
5. Select **Review payment**.
6. On **Check and pay**, check **Payment**, any **Credit card surcharge**, and
**Total to charge**, then select **Pay**, which shows the total.

When the payment goes through, the page says **Paid. Thank you.**, a receipt
is emailed to your organization's billing contact, and you can select
**Download receipt**.

If the payment does not go through, the page gives the reason. Nothing was
charged. Try another method.

In Microsoft Teams, paying, **Payment methods**, and **Autopay** open in your
browser.

## A bank payment is processing

A bank payment (ACH) takes 3 to 5 business days to clear. Until then, the
invoice shows **Processing (bank transfer, usually 3-5 business days)**, and
the money is not counted as paid yet.

Do not pay again while a payment is processing. You get a receipt by email
when it clears, or the reason if the bank refuses it.

## Pay from the email without signing in

Each invoice email has a link to pay that invoice. It opens a payment page
that needs no sign-in, with the same steps. The link stops working some time
after the invoice is due. If it has, sign in to the portal to pay, or ask your
IT provider for a new link.

## See your payment history

**Payments** lists every payment on your account, online or not, with its
status and a **Receipt** for each one that went through. A payment the bank
sent back shows **Returned by the bank**.

## Read your next bill

**Next bill** estimates your next invoice from your agreement and today's
counts of devices and people. It is an estimate, not a bill: devices and
people added or removed before the bill is issued change it.

- **What is on it** lists each line. **Show the N counted** lists the devices
  or people a line counted.
- **What changed since your last bill** lists what was added or removed, and
how much each change adds or takes off.

If your IT provider has not set up a billing agreement for you, there is
nothing to estimate.
