Upgrade or change your plan

When you outgrow your plan, the account owner can upgrade it from the Outpost portal. This page covers self-serve upgrades, what changes when you upgrade, and how to arrange the changes the portal does not offer: moving to MSP and moving to a lower plan.

The plans and what each one includes are on Plans and limits.

  • You must be the account owner. Anyone else is refused with Only the subscription owner can change the plan.
  • The subscription must be on a trial or active. An account with an overdue invoice, or one that is scheduled to close, cannot change plan.
  • An upgrade needs a payment method on file. If there is none, the portal takes you to add one first, as described below.

An upgrade takes effect immediately and cannot be undone by yourself. Moving back to a lower plan goes through support.

  1. Sign in to the Outpost portal. See Sign in to the Outpost portal.
  2. On the dashboard’s Plan card, select Upgrade to followed by the plan you want. The button shows the new plan’s monthly fee.
  3. If no payment method is on file, the card notes You add a payment method before moving to a paid plan. Selecting the button takes you to Stripe to add a card or bank account. When you return, the portal finishes the upgrade for you.

The dashboard confirms with You are now on followed by the new plan’s name.

When the console refuses something because of your plan and the next plan is one you can upgrade to yourself, the message carries an Upgrade link. It opens the Outpost portal dashboard, where the account owner upgrades as above. See Plans and limits.

  • Limits and features. The new plan’s limits and features apply from the upgrade. Your console picks them up within 15 minutes.
  • Billing. The plan fee for the current billing period is split by day between the old plan and the new one, and appears on that period’s invoice.
  • Trials. An upgrade does not include a trial. Upgrading during a trial ends the trial and starts billing on the new plan from that day.
  • Home Lab. Leaving Home Lab releases it. Your own S3-compatible storage keeps working on every paid plan, so nothing has to move.

Outpost emails the account owner when the plan changes.

Contact support with the plan you want. The portal shows Contact Outpost support to change your plan type. on Account details for the same reason.

Before a move to a lower plan, you may need to bring your usage within the target plan’s limits: endpoints, unmanaged devices, console users, clients, or stored data. Limits are listed on Plans and limits.

The dashboard’s Plan card shows the new plan’s name and limits. In the console, Settings > Billing shows the new plan on its Plan card.
