Find and filter endpoints
The endpoint list at Endpoints > All endpoints is where you find a computer, narrow the fleet to the endpoints you care about, and keep that narrowing as a view you can reopen. This page covers searching, filtering, saved views, aliases, and selecting several endpoints at once.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- You need
endpoint:readto see the list. - Renaming an endpoint and sharing a view with your team need
endpoint:write. - Waking selected endpoints needs
endpoint:action. - On the MSP plan, transferring selected endpoints to another client needs
endpoint:writeandenroll:manage.
Search for an endpoint
Section titled “Search for an endpoint”In Find an endpoint, enter any part of an endpoint’s identity and press Enter. The search matches the hostname, the alias, the serial number, the asset tag, the model, the processor, and the person signed in.
The search box does not look at what is installed on an endpoint. To find endpoints by their software, use the Installed software filter instead.
Filter the list
Section titled “Filter the list”- Select Filters.
- Select + Add filter, then choose a field, an operator, and a value.
- Add more filters as needed. Each filter narrows the list further.
- Select Apply, or press Enter.
The applied filters appear as chips above the list. Remove one with its close button, or select Clear all. The Filters button shows how many filters are applied, such as Filters (2).
| Filter | Operator | Values |
|---|---|---|
| Status | is | In service (active only), Gone quiet, Never reported in, Retired |
| Device type | is | Computer, Phone or tablet, TV |
| Site | is | Any site, or No site |
| Installed software | includes | Software names reported by your endpoints |
| Signed-in user | is | Users reported by your endpoints |
| Roles & tags | is | Detected server roles and your own tags. You can choose more than one. |
| Operating system | is | Operating system names reported by your endpoints |
| Manufacturer | is | Manufacturers reported by your endpoints |
| Virtual / Physical | is | Virtual, Physical / unknown |
| Model | is | Models reported by your endpoints |
| Memory | at least, at most | 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB |
| CPU | contains | Free text, for example i7 |
| Serial number | is | Free text |
Each custom field your organization defines for endpoints also appears as a filter. A checkbox field offers Yes and No.
Use a view
Section titled “Use a view”A view is a saved set of filters and a column layout. Select Views to open one. Views are grouped into the built-in views, Shared views, and your own Saved views.
The list opens on the built-in In service view. It shows every endpoint that is not retired, including endpoints that are offline or have never reported in, so an endpoint that goes quiet stays in the list. The other built-in views are:
| View | Shows |
|---|---|
| Gone quiet | Endpoints with the offline status. |
| Never reported in | Endpoints with the pending status. |
| Computers | Computers that are not retired. |
| Phones and tablets | Phones and tablets that are not retired, including those managed without an agent. |
| Retired | Endpoints with the retired status. |
See Endpoint statuses.
The built-in In service view applies no filter. Choosing In service in
the Status filter is different: it matches active endpoints only and
hides offline and never-reported endpoints.
Save a view
Section titled “Save a view”- Apply the filters you want, and arrange the columns.
- Select Save view.
- In the view name box, enter a name, then select Save.
- To make the view available to everyone on your team, select Share with
the whole desk before you save. This option needs
endpoint:write.
The search box is not part of a view. A view keeps the filters and the column layout against your account.
When you open a view and change it, Save view offers Save changes to followed by the view name, so you can update it in place. Rename and Delete for your views are in the same panel.
Choose columns
Section titled “Choose columns”Select Columns to show, hide, and reorder the columns. Drag a row, or use the arrows. Reset columns restores the default layout. The Name column cannot be hidden.
The columns are Name, Type, Status, Health, Operating system, Model, Memory, Signed in, Site, Roles & tags, and Last seen. The list sorts by Last seen, most recent first, until you select a sortable column header.
The Type column shows a device icon for each endpoint. For an endpoint with the Outpost agent, the icon is colored by whether the agent is connected at that moment, and its label says so in words, such as Computer, online or Computer, offline. Point at the icon to read the label. Screen readers announce it. The icon is neutral for retired endpoints and for devices managed without an agent. Status shows Connected for the same connected endpoints.
At the end of each row, a connect icon opens the remote viewer, or a terminal
on an endpoint that cannot share its screen. It appears only when the endpoint
is connected and you have remote:initiate. See
Start a remote desktop session.
Rename an endpoint with an alias
Section titled “Rename an endpoint with an alias”An alias is the name the console uses for an endpoint in place of its hostname. It changes nothing on the computer. The hostname stays visible on a second line in the list, so a search for the hostname still finds the endpoint.
- In the endpoint’s row, select Rename.
- In Alias, enter the new name.
- Select Save alias.
To go back to the hostname, clear Alias and save. An alias is searchable and visible to everyone who can see the endpoint.
Select several endpoints
Section titled “Select several endpoints”Select the checkbox at the start of each row you want. To select a range, select one row, then hold Shift and select another. The checkbox in the header selects or clears every row on the current page.
With at least one row selected, a selection bar shows the count and the actions you can take on the selection. Wake followed by the count sends a Wake-on-LAN request to the selected endpoints that can be woken. See Wake-on-LAN.
On the MSP plan, inside a client’s workspace, Transfer to another client moves up to 500 selected endpoints to another client. See Transfer several endpoints at once.
The selection clears when you change page, filters, sort order, or view.
Verify
Section titled “Verify”Open the Gone quiet view. The list shows only endpoints with the offline
status, and the Filters button reads Filters (1).
If something goes wrong
Section titled “If something goes wrong”| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No endpoint matches a search for software you know is installed | Search covers identity fields only. | Use the Installed software filter. |
| A retired endpoint is missing from the list | The default In service view hides retired endpoints. | Open the Retired view. |
| An offline or never-reported endpoint is missing from the list | The open view filters Status is In service, which matches active endpoints only. A saved view made from the old default can carry this filter. | Open the built-in In service view, or remove the Status filter from your view, select Save view, and select Save changes to followed by the view name. |
| The filters and column layout you had not saved are gone | The default In service view changed to show every endpoint that is not retired. The console cleared the list state your browser remembered, once, so an old filter would not keep hiding endpoints. | Apply the filters again, or save them as a view. Saved views are not affected. |
| Rename is unavailable | You do not have endpoint:write. | Ask an owner for the permission. |
