Create your Outpost account

Sign-up creates your Outpost account and its owner. When you finish this page you have a verified account, and the next step is choosing your plan and your Outpost address. It takes a few minutes and needs no payment method unless you choose to subscribe without a trial.

  • An email address you will keep. It becomes the account owner’s sign-in. Privacy relays, anonymous mail services, and disposable addresses are refused. See Email addresses Outpost does not accept.
  • A mobile phone that can receive text messages. Outpost verifies mobile numbers from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the EU, Australia, and New Zealand. Landlines and internet phone numbers are refused.
  • Your organization’s legal name and mailing address, or your own mailing address if the account is for yourself. The address is needed for invoices and sales tax.
  • The plan you want, if you know it. A sign-up button on a plan at outpostplatform.com carries that plan into the wizard, and the plan step preselects it. See Plans and limits.

There is no password in the Outpost portal. You sign in to it with a code sent to your email address, or with a passkey. The one password you set is for your own console, when your Outpost is ready.

  2. On Welcome to Outpost, select Continue.

If you were invited to finish a setup that Outpost prepared for you, the wizard shows Welcome! You are completing setup for and your organization’s name. Follow the same steps.

The wizard creates your sign-up account at this step and sends a code to the address you enter.

  1. On Your account, in Your name, enter your name.

If Cloudflare wants more, a checkbox appears above the buttons; select it. If the page shows Checking that you are a person. This takes a moment, then try again., wait a few seconds and select Create signup account again.

  1. On Check your email, enter the 6-digit code from the email in Verification code.
  2. Select Continue.

The code expires 10 minutes after it is sent, and each code allows 5 attempts. If it has not arrived, check your spam folder, then select send a new one. You can ask for a new code once a minute, and up to 5 times in 24 hours.

  1. On Your mobile number, in Country, select the country of your mobile number. The wizard adds the country’s dialing code for you.
  2. In Mobile number, enter the number without the country code.
  3. Select the checkbox that agrees to receive text messages from Outpost. Its Terms link opens the text messaging section of the Terms of Service, and its Privacy Policy link opens the Privacy Policy.
  4. Select Continue. Outpost texts a 6-digit code to the number.

One account per organization, one trial per person

Section titled “One account per organization, one trial per person”
  • Work email domains. An organization gets one Outpost account, matched by its email domain. When someone at the same domain has already completed sign-up, the wizard refuses a new one and says so. Ask the person who set up your account to invite you to the console instead.
  • Personal email providers, such as Gmail or Outlook.com, are not an organization, so the domain rule does not apply. Instead, each verified email address and each verified mobile number can start one free trial. A second trial is refused at the address step, which then offers Subscribe now without a trial.
  • Home Lab is limited to one per person, by verified email address or mobile number. See Home Lab terms.

Starting the wizard again with an address whose sign-up you abandoned is allowed. The wizard sends a new code and you walk the steps again.

Outpost accepts work addresses and personal providers such as Gmail, Outlook, and iCloud. It refuses:

  • Disposable addresses, with Please use an email address you will keep. Disposable email addresses are not accepted on Outpost.
  • Privacy relays and anonymous mail services, with Use an email address from a provider other than a privacy relay or anonymous mail service. This covers, among others, Proton Mail, Tuta, Apple Hide My Email, Firefox Relay, DuckDuckGo Email Protection, SimpleLogin, addy.io, riseup.net, and disroot.org, including their subdomains.

Outpost refuses these because every sign-up must use an email provider that can respond to legal process about who signed up.

When sign-up and the address step finish, the Outpost portal either takes you straight into your new console, or shows Your Outpost is ready. on the dashboard with a link to your Outpost address. If your Outpost is still being set up, the dashboard shows Deploying your Outpost. and takes you there when it is ready.
