Cancel your subscription and export your data

You can cancel your Outpost subscription at any time from the Outpost portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you then have 30 days to export your data before it is deleted. This page covers scheduling cancellation, the dates that follow it, and the export.

  • You must be the account owner. Anyone else who opens the cancellation card sees Billing is unavailable or this account does not have owner access. Please retry or contact support.
  • Decide what you need to keep. After the export window closes, the data in your hosted Outpost is deleted and cannot be recovered.
  • Your documentation can be exported at any time, without canceling. See Documentation.
  1. Sign in to the Outpost portal. See Sign in to the Outpost portal.
  2. In the portal navigation, select Account details.
  3. On the Billing and cancellation card, select View billing and cancellation.
  4. Read the terms shown: Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. There is no early termination fee. Accrued fees and usage remain payable.
  5. Select the checkbox Cancel this organization’s subscription at the end of its current period.
  6. Select Schedule cancellation.

If your account is billed under terms agreed with Outpost rather than monthly, the card says Contact support to review cancellation under your agreed billing terms. instead. Contact support.

  • On a paid subscription, at the end of the current billing period. Your Outpost keeps working normally until then. The final invoice covers that period, and any usage, taxes, and overdue amounts remain payable.
  • During a free trial, when the trial ends. Nothing is charged.

The Billing and cancellation card shows the dates, for example Service ends followed by the date, then when export is available through, when deletion is due, and when backups expire. Outpost also emails the account owner the same dates.

Every date counts from the day service ends.

WhenWhat happens
Service end dateThe subscription ends. Your console becomes read-only, and owners can export account data. Agents keep running on your endpoints and keep reporting.
Up to day 30The export window. You can sign in and read everything, but changes are refused with Account closing. Outpost emails a reminder 7 days before the window closes.
By day 60Your data is deleted from Outpost’s active systems, and Outpost emails to say so.
By day 180Backup copies that contain your data expire, including endpoint backups stored in Outpost Cloud Storage.

Invoices, payment records, and the record of your acceptance of the Terms are kept after deletion, as the Terms of Service describe.

The same schedule applies when Outpost ends a subscription after a suspension for non-payment, or a Home Lab after 120 days without activity.

When your Outpost runs on your own servers, nothing on them is deleted. After the export window, the console stops working and shows The Outpost account for this Depot is closed. Your data stays on this server. Contact Outpost to reopen it. Agents keep reporting to your server. Deleting the data on your own servers and storage is up to you.

Backups stored in your own S3-compatible storage stay yours. Outpost does not delete them, and you can restore them with the recovery kit from Backup.

During the export window, owners can download your Outpost’s data as one ZIP file. On Settings > Billing, a notice reads This account is closing. with the date the window ends, and an Export account data link to the export card.

The file is named outpost-export-<yyyy-mm-dd>.zip, where <yyyy-mm-dd> is the date it was built. Select Export account data again to build a fresh one.
